GAS Got Me

Per an item earlier today, I just ordered my Refurb SX50HS from Canon Direct. $169 plus sales tax and a flat $5 shipping fee, total $186.80.

I've been looking at a long zoom bridge camera for a long time and the images submitted to UHH from it all look pretty good. It is smaller and easier to carry than my T3i with five lenses, so I will have it with me more often! I couldn't resist the less than half price offer!

It won't replace the T3i for planned shoots where the larger sensor is important though.

Congrats!

My "back-up" sx50 (for when I wear out #2) came today (I got for $169 and free 2-day shipping, though it spent the weekend in Spokane).

If you need any suggestions re settings, don't hesitate to ask :)

For others looking at the Canon site, check the fine print re extra savings (only 'til tomorrow I believe) and enter the code shown for the free shipping.

Perhaps I didn't read the fine print well enough. A discount of over 50% IS a pretty good deal though.

I was a bit surprised to find them not sold out of this. I saw the note about it fairly early this morning. They must have some old stock or some returns to dump! I'll let y'all know how I like it.

I ordered one yesterday also.
I have a project to teach my wife and younger son basic photography.
We have one or two little P&S and I have a Fuji HS10 bridge already. Will start them on the P&S, then the boy (he is special needs and doesn't need the complication of multiple lenses) will use the Fuji and the SX50 is for my wife. (She has a Panasonic Camcorder and sometimes uses the Fuji via the "point and push button" school of photography.)

I also ordered a new editing friendly laptop from Costco. Dell 15 5000 series with 16GB of memory, 4GB of that dedicated to video and an i7 processor. Will share this with my wife, she says my 10 year old laptop I used in the classroom before I retired is too slow when she uses it for surfing and e-mail while watching TV.

May is a gift intensive month for me: Mother's Day, Wedding Aniversary; daughter, younger son and wife's birthdays.

I downloaded the SX50 manual. There are almost 280 pages of information about a lot of features that I would much rather handle in post processing. I'll post some shots soon as the camera arrives. My T3i with 70-300 has equivalent 35mm focal length of 480mm. The SX of course, 1200. That is 2.5 times the reach. I look forward to birds and squirrels. Our dog is obsessed with a gopher in the back yard. Maybe I'll catch him too.

I still have my Canon S-5IS which I use occasionally along with my TS20. I can let my 5 yr old grandson use the TS20 and it's perfect for poolside.
