So excited! And boy is this different from the two D5100's I've had for 5 years! Think I'll be sleeping with the manual for the next few days. (-: HAVE to get this nailed before shooting a wedding on Saturday. I've watched some good D7100 videos that were helpful. Think I'll watch again with camera in hand this time and shoot, shoot, shoot. No problems with that. I have a concert to shoot tomorrow night for yearbook job and a prom Friday night. Think I'll be plenty acclimated for the wedding.

Love this so far. Heavier and more solid than I'm used to. Also came with 18-140 lens that I'm loving so far. And an extra 55-300 because I use the one I got with my 5100 very heavily and wanted a spare. This combo from B&H was too good a deal to pass up.

Congratulations.

There were a couple of things I had to adjust to when upgrading from a D3000 to the D7100.
The extra weight has been a problem for me—to the point of actually causing injury.
Once, during a church event, my focus square got stuck in the center of the frame. Nothing I did could move it and I was getting frustrated. I found about the focus lock switch on my smartphone. Since that day, I have noticed that it’s very easy to bump that switch by accident.

Thanks, hlmichel. Sorry to hear the extra weight has given you an injury. Oh my.

Hmmm, never had an issue with the lock switch, MY problem is pressing the button to change the ISO and turning the dial, only to find I have changed the quality from raw to JPG by mistake - usually AFTER returning home to post process!!

:D

You'll love it Donna...I bought mine about 18 months ago and it was one of the best decisions I've made, a brilliant camera...it was voted best APS-C DSLR on the market a couple of years ago. I also just bought (yesterday) a new 18-140mm Nikkor. I already have the 18-105mm (very well used) and this new one just gives me that bit more range. The 18-105 now resides on my D90...
I also have the 55-300mm Nikkor, another brilliant lens with excellent IQ over the whole range...everyone on these pages really loves their 55-300.. :D

I would mix up the front dial and rear dial. So instead of lowering my ISO, I'd turn on auto ISO.

I went from the D300 to the D7100. I felt like the D7100 was going to float away.....

I think I already do, SX2002. Just major differences in all the settings compared to the D5100. Major! But I'll concur the learning curve quickly. I have to. If I shot automatic no problem but I don't. I'm constantly adjusting all the settings for rapidly changing conditions. The manual for this baby is HUGE and I've already hit glitches where I'm asking it what the heck it's talking about! (-:

I flowed on from a D90 so the transition wasn't hard..just remember, don't try to learn the manual, you never will, just look up the thing you want to do at the moment and eventually it will all become automatic...
