T6S and 7D Mk II

Stopped into Best Buy this weekend and had the opportunity to handle the T6s and the 7D Mk II. What great tools.

The T6s seems to have most of the functions of the 70D but is a bit smaller and lighter plus has a 24 MP sensor. The 7D Mk II is just awesome. A little bigger and heavier than my 70D, but not an issue. It actually feels a little better than the 70D to me. On sale with a 18-135 is stm for 2,000. Where is my lottery win when I need it.

The 7D mk2 is a great camera for the price, bought one last December and have really liked it, also got the 18/135 STM, super quiet and fast focus, great for video and an excellent medium priced lens for general photography. I did have to send the lens back to Canon for some adjustments, it wasn't as sharp as my older 18/135 USM, but they fixed it and now works fine. Maybe you'll win the lottery and get one of the cameras you were looking at.

Yep, the 7D MK II is on my wish list and I'm saving my $$$ for one. I stay out of Best Buy because I know if I went and actually handled one, the plastic would come out of my wallet!

Leave the plastic at home when you go to Best Buy.

Save your money and go to New York and visit B&H. You won't need plastic because you'll think you died and went to heaven.

Their catalog is bad enough, I don't think I want in the store.

I think they are both going to be excellent cameras, but they are both going through tech teething problems. The 7DmkII with auto focus issues which may or may not be addressed by a firmware update v1.0.4 ( I think) will be available for download imminently.

The T6i / T6s have some sensor manufacturing quality issues. These will be addressed, and Canon has a program in place to deal with that.

Whatever you choose to do, please do so with your eyes wide open. I'm a long time Canon user, but I also work in the tech industry. I would seriously consider getting a 7DmkII or T6s, but I would not personally do either right now.

Hi Bill, I talk to Canon professional services tech support too often, and I asked them about the T6S, and their opinion is to buy it over the 70D. They said: superior sensor with Digic 6, faster autofocus, exactly the same video capabilities, and less expensive. It may be a Rebel, but I think it's a jewel. I'd love to see one! :-D

The T6 series would be a good option for someone that wants quality and doesn't want to put down 1600.00 for a camera. Low light is good on it and with the improved focus system I am not sure where they can take the Rebel line next without a total revamp. I use a T5i as a backup and trusted it enough to shoot my daughters class Prom pictures last week.

I'm glad you're ok. I was in an accident April 2014. I severely broke the fibula but not a scratch on my roadking....go figure! first accident after 35+ years of riding
