Was trying to duplicate muddyvalley's shot of the cranefly haltere using just a 65mm 4:1 macro and getting really lousy results using CombineZP.
Plugged the frames into an expired copy of Zerene on a whim.
Much more difference than i expected.

Zerene is really a good program. It can even piece together jumpy hand held shots. Photo #2. 6 frame stack & it was a little windy. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-307041-1.html

I may have to spring for Zerene. I've been using Helicon Focus-- but I don't think it does a great job on hand-held captures. I guess I'll wait until I have some time off and do a trial "stack-off".

Actually on that photo above of the camas, on download I see some ghosting around some edges. Zerene has a second Dmap stack that will do away with that & then the two stacks can be combined. It takes longer & I haven't practiced much with it. I can't remember if Helicon has that too. I should probably give it a try on that photo. I just used the Pmap function.

Zerene works great for hand held. It's just important to keep the lens Pointed forward and you can shake all you want. But if you move the lens, left and right you get terrible haloing.
