Evidently the 7D Mark II has some auto-focus problems. Canon is trying to determine whether they can be corrected by a firmware update or whether it will require sending your camera in to a Canon service center:

I don't "think" I have any AF issues, but I guess I'd need more details of under what conditions it happens, and test it accordingly. Hope not, but if I have to send it in, I have to send it in.

I sent my first one back to B&H for an exchange because maybe one shot in ten would be usable. The one they sent me in exchange seems fine. (Interestingly, it has a slightly lower ser # then the original one). This one does seem to miss focus at times, but that is most likely due to a control unit malfunction. (With me being the control unit!). All-in-all, I think it does pretty well:

I had heard that it did it mainly in AI Servo. Don't know if the number of focal points made a difference. My first one did it no matter how I set it.

Mine does miss a focus once in a while, usually on successive quick shots. I was thinking lens but it could be either camera or lens I guess. I like your avatar. I worked at Boeing Wichita in the 60's on the H's.

That's the last G-Model I flew on before leaving the Air Force

I hope you didn't work on the one that broke the main wing spar while sitting on the ground being fueled! I think that was a D model though. Betcha that crew was surprised!

Thought all the D models were used up in "Linebacker".

Nope! I didn't hear about that. The oldest I've been in was a tall tail G model. I worked there for only 18 months with several weeks in Bomb/Nav school. The production ended in '63 so a lot of folks left, myself included.

The D-Models flew until 1982-83, with 37 being retired in 1978 because they did not have upgrades done to them to strengthen the lower wing and fuselage along with a few more structural components. 21 D-Models were lost in Vietnam.

Did I hear that all of the G's are retired now? Some of it required per international agreements.

All the G's are gone -- It's just the 90 or so H's carrying on.
