Are tall flash brackets really safe?

OK...The title is just a come on to get you guys to watch this wedding video. I bet you all can come up with some interesting comments. Have fun. Five stars for the first person to tell me why I think the photographer is a smart pro.

I want my 5 stars. The "protographer" was the first, and only person to leave when the lightning started.

I don't care what they pay me, I'm not going to get hit by lightning. My contract specifically mentions act of God, I think lightning is the ultimate act of God.

Can I get an AMEN? :-)

The only one smart enough to get out of the rain and a potentially dangerous situation.

Depends on what those umbrellas were made of. I'm guessing they were all holding metal.

I'm figuring after the photographer got out of there, the umbrella was the next likely target.

I'll give you 4 stars. I said "smart pro". You hit the smart part but the pro part showed when he paused for a second and got the million dollar shot of the startled B&G.

I think I would have found a safe place but one that I was still in the rain. Good excuse to cover up for the wet spot on my pants.   BTW...everytime I am outside shooting a wedding and I hear thunder my mind goes right to that flash sitting high up on that bracket and I see myself lighting up like a fourth of July fireworks. And this from a guy that refuses to quit fishing during a thunderstorm.

But then maybe the photographer was holding a cheap plastic 2/3 frame Nikon

Good point but I noticed that he had a big white lens. Of course it could be on a cheap Rebel. But, I hear that some Nikon owners have painted their lenses white...Canon Envy.

OH..OH..Now I've done it. The Nikon god of thunder and lightning is going to strike me down. I am going to cancel all my outdoor weddings tomorrow.

The only thing that matters is when I get home from a shoot and I pull all my junk out .......... my better half doesn't want me to pull out a Nikon ......... she wants me to pull out a Canon
