I am presently using a video camera for surveillance and it is nice for now but I think their are even better tools out there but I am just uncertain about taking an expensive step with my limited knowledge?
I have numerous questions but to simplify matters I will ask only one question at a time.
I would like very much to move up to a digital SLR 35 mm camera that takes video as well as photographs. I heard the terminology mirrorless and mirrors DSLR. I just wonerr is that correct and which would be better for my line of work?
Thanking you in adance

Personally... for video use a video camera.
For stills.. depends on lots of things. How big, how far away, how much do you need to enlarge....
For giggles and grins... check out B & H camera, and Adorama.
They both have still and video equipment.
And read here about stuff you're interested in. Use the search feature. Too many variables in your question.
Good luck.

my D810 is quieter than my D800 which is quieter than my F4 but they all make more noise than a video cam.

A dslr is limited to just under 30 minutes of continuous video, at which point it stops and you must restart.

I believe that is built in to keep it from being classified as a video camera, why, I don't know.

Thank you all.
Noise is not a factor because I am a pretty good distance away from subject matter being photographed/videoed.
I will look into the Nikon model mentioned. Thanks.
aabout my question-mirrorless or mirrored dslr- what is the difference?
thanks

Secondly, which if any DSLR will have the ability to include the date and time stamp on both any photo or video taken. I mean to appear as shot is taken not to be added on later with some kind of software as editing shots is a no no

Third question is-using flash is not a good idea in low light environment so what should I look for in a camera that will allow me to take photos/videos in very low light. Flashes would cause unwanted attention which I do not need

Fourth question-so as I can remain even further from my subject matter being photoed/videoed, I wonder if a 300 mm telephoto lens would be really too much and a200 mm telephoto may be good enough. Difficult to know just how powerfully each one is

Finally, which DSLR will allow for transer of photos/video to DVR disc and computer files with the time and date stamp on the photo/video in tact.
I know I had a lot of questions but they are questions that I need answers to.
Thank you for your patientce

And, some other DSLRs have a "quiet mode."

An F4 would make more noise than an Alcohol Fuel Dragster.

I would recommend a 70-200 f/2.8 to go along with a D810. I suggest that you consider renting a setup before you buy. It's a whole lot less expensive than buying twice. Good luck.
