And what would the difference be? I'm sure the fixes apply regardless.

Yep, there's a bugfix upgrade out there - it took me from CC 2015 to 2015.01 (AKA Lightroom 6.0.1). Looks like the fixes are minor - here's a link I found describing them: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lightroom-cc-2015-0-1-lightroom-6-0-1-update-now-available. Size of download was only 15MB. The information on the link says, "This bug fix addresses issues related to launching Lightroom and accessing online help."

I had a problem updating and Adobe tech support, excellent BTW, uninstalled and reinstalled CC, so it worked. Digging into the new stuff now.

My issue was the error message "Trying to contact Server." It persisted for days. So, if you get the message, uninstall CC and reinstall and all will be well. He had to disable antivirus for the duration of teh download.

In general, when a new release of anything comes out hold off till the wrinkles are worked out. Beta tests are woefully weak and it's not until the masses with their varied hardware, OS etc. stir the hornets nest and fixes ooze out.

It's all automatic, just look in your Adobe Creative Cloud Application. It will tell you if you have updates pending install.

After a career in the Computer industry, I can tell you that what the companies call Beta Testing (as we knew it through the 80's and early 90's) with a few select customers before general release, is now what we called Alpha testing with a very small tightly controlled group of developers internal and external. In return for lower Software Prices, we are ALL Beta Testers now. That's why I and many other industry vets stay a release or even OS level behind. With MS, most of us only go to a new level, like 8 or 10 when there is a Service Pack 2 relased and appropriately aged.

In the Software companies' defense, general purpose software like Operating Systems are subjected to very diverse and unpredictable demands by a nearly infinite number of applications, some "not so compliantly developed"--or ingeniously using "features" that become "Non Features" (AKA Bugs) when used in a nearly infinite number of ways by each of the user community.

Also thorough testing is very exensive. Think putting lots of people onto a few servers and letting them pound away at many, many applications for weeks.

It is for that reason, that people who use major applications, for example Reala Estate MLS apps by third parties, turn off Auto Updates for Windows. Too many times have folks found themselves with an updated Windows PC that is unable to interact (as it did when it was turned off last night) with their lifeline app.

I have found that understanding doesn't make it beter, but it does help contain upgrade rage.

That sound you heard last year was me replacing my XP system. And I'm firmly planted with Win 7 Pro 64 bit. I may just entirely skip W-8 and wait for W-10 SP2.

The same goes for the Apps, to a certain degree. But it is not as severe, unless you depend on plug-ins or something similar that may not be compatible (yet) with the updated system.

Just remember It WAS NOT better manual.

Spot on Craig.

I did OS's and App's for years each release had less and less testing. We basically made sure there were no Sev 1, shit the bed, issues. Of course there were Sev 2-4 where we hoped to fix and stick in first set of fixes. Time to market = $$$$$, even if it sucked.

As for Win 7 to 8, it had some bad press screwing with the desktop and replacing i with 8.1. While 8 is a little different it runs very well for my myriad of apps. 8 is pretty solid.

I will go to Lr 6 but not until a few service streams down the road. I want HDR, Stitch.

I went to LR 6 because I want the Stitch and tthe HDR, so I fugured I'd learn it before I needed it to be stable. I'm a beginning user who is unlikely ever to be more than a terminal Intermediate, like my skiing before I retired from it. (Crack factor exceeded my bounce factor--imagine it shaped like a Supply/Demand curve).

Help me set my expectations:

I'm thinking that stitch might eliminate the need for an ultra wide lens.

I'm thinking lens profiles will prolong the useful lives of my ancient EOS collection from the last Century film days. Although I had a hard time with CA correction for my EF 75-300.

Should I expect to purchase another de-noise/perspective/distortion/CA plug in?
