Thinking of moving away from infra red commander using required 'line of sight' to radio controlled units. Looking in the latest B&H catalog (just received), and I do not find Pocket Wizzards listed. Are they still the way to go?
Thanks in advance
Duane

Check out the Vello FreeWave Plus Wireless Remote. You don't indicate what camera you're using so here's the link to the Canon version: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?N=10753841&InitialSearch=yes&sts=pi. They have versions for most systems.

Pocket Wizards are certainly one way. The cameras I have use the ten-pin connector and that is an expensive cord, but there may be other cords for the other cameras.

I do think there are less expensive alternatives to the PWs. I use them because i was using them before the cheaper stuff was available. I will say that the PW solution is bullet-proof.

I have never used Pocket Wizards but I thought it strange that B&H doesn't have them in the catalog. They do have them on their web site though.

Similar, but less expensive.

I suggest you check out Phottix. Not the lowest price but they have a deal going with two receivers and a transmitter. They are great and I have been using them for about five years now at all type of events from Weddings, special events, indoor or outdoors, it doesn't matter. Warranty dept is great. Had a small problem with one a year ago and they didn't bother fixing it just sent a new one.

I just bought a Hahnel Giga T Pro II Wireless Remote Control with Timer and Time Lapse from a vendor on Amazon called Big White Rabbit.
The unit is shipped free to the US from Corke in Ireland. It's $89 for the Nikon, & $69 for a Panasonic, which I ordered by accident. Don't know what a Canon would cost but I'm thinking the same as Nikon.
I was playing with it yesterday and it works really nicely. It works wireless or tethered.

Bear2, I have the Vello wireless and I am been very pleased. Go to Phil Steele's website on free tutorials. He has four video's comparing different wireless triggers. If I do this right here is a link: http://steeletraining.com/photo-tutorials.htm

I would also recommend the Vello Freewave RW-N2 for a Nikon D7000. I bought one for my 7100 some time back and I find it to be very effective. One word of caution: Don't trust the batteries that come included in the box. Mine died almost immediately.

I use the RFn-4 on my D800. Works very well. Even from 30' behind the camera.
