I’m hoping one of you can help me in trying to locate a camera mount. I was in a small town called Jamestown here in California and I say a guy in a truck that had a camera mount that mounted like the old car hop trays. This mount had a setup like a tripod and the camera could be move around. I watched this guy but he left before I could get over and talk to him. Have any of you seen this type mount and if so where can I get one? This mount looked like it worked real well. Thanks

Well I just want to say thank you and i will be looking into this. sometimes we drive along the pacific coast and you can get great shots in areas where you can't stop but can slow down. It looks like this will work. Once again thank You.

Car mounts have been around for at least 35 years. I would not advise using one while the car is in motion. That isn't what they are designed for. Any small amount of movement is transferred directly to the camera via the mount. It will be easier to shoot hand-held than attempt the "gunship shooting" that would be required with a unit mounted on the vehicle - that is if you don't purchase a mount with a built in stabilizing unit which =$$$

Save your money. I just use an overstuffed bean/sand bag to support my camera.

An over stuffed bean bag just might do the trick as to what I want to achieve and yes it would be a cheaper way to go. I have seen the ones with a suckion cup and I do not trust them with my camera and lens attached. Once again I have to thak you for your advice.

I do the same. Make a couple of your own. Make them at least 14 inches long and 6 inches wide. During hunting season they help with other optics as well. I can set a spotting scope or binos on them when birding.

Keep it simple, keep it cheap.

I found a very nice used one for a very good price on Ebay. When you use one make sure that your engine is turned off, it makes a dfiference.

Instead of a bean bag, I've used a short length of foam pipe insulation. They come with a slit to slip over water pipes. Just slip over the top of the glass. Pros: Cheap & easy to make. Cons: Can't close the window all the way. Comes off if you fully open the window.

Nice idea.I am going to try this. It might also be good to keep in the bag to use on fences and other things.

Perhaps, it could fit around a tripod/monopod leg.

What a great idea. I just made a rack for my kayaks and used the foam for the resting posts for the yaks. Interesting how something so obvious is often overlooked. Now I know what do do with extra foam pieces from the rack.

I keep a section of one those foam pool float sticks in the truck. It's about a foot long. I cut it down the side and just fit it over the window. I can roll the window up on it when driving regular speeds and then roll it down to brace the camera on when I stop to shoot from the truck.
