I just learned this from a trusted source - Do Not Defrag an SSD drive! It will shorten the life and it does not need to be Defraged.

Also, for the same reason, do not hibernate a computer with SSD.

Old news.

Or get a "real" Operating System with a File System that isn't prone to fragmentation.

Truthfully though, NTFS isn't as prone to fragmentation as many of you have been led to believe.

Hmmm, may be old news to some, but I betcha there are plenty Hogs and friends of Hogs that have SSD's and did not consider the impact of Defrag on a SSD...
so an old dog tries a new trick (which is a moving object with technology) and bites his own tail.

Any tip is worth posting. I have SSD's on multiple devices and never did a defrag: but that does not mean I may not have.
I am grateful for the tip.

This "No defrag" rule also applies to all solid state memories (like SD cards.) repeated unnecessary "writes" shortens their life too!

I have yet to see a "Defrag" option on any camera menu that I've used. Which camera has that option, if I may ask?

Maybe you aren't familiar with "Wear Leveling" just yet. Look it up.

I was referring to such cards being mounted in card readers on a PC, and with cards that hold data on a regular basis (like used in a phone

Well, I have a "Windows" phone and it doesn't have the option or require the Defraging of its MicroSD card either!

Didn't I say "in a card reader on a PC"? As in "taking the card out of a phone, putting in a card reader and defragging in using a PC, in some - misguided - attempt a a performance boost ", Whew.......

I've never ever, ever, ever heard of anyone Defraging their cellphone memory (MicroSD card). So exactly who are you helping? You want to increase the performance of any SDcard? Go to the official SDcard website and download/use the official SDcard formatting utility.

This very topic shows up on Droidforums.net as far back as '10 And EHow not only said it speeds up performance, they explain HOW TO DO IT. I obviously didn't make up the concept. I guess you never, never, never though to at least to Google it.

Sorry, but according to you, I'm Bill Gates. So therefore I would not use GOOGLE. Yes, Cortana uses BING, but that is a different topic.

Maybe you should Defrag the memory in your head, that way it would work better!

And while you are at it, rotate your windshield wiper blades so that they last longer.
