I mentioned an issue with LR 5 as an aside in another post I was requesting help for but this is now a high priority. I just came home with sports images needing processing. I shoot in raw. I have opened LR5 at least 12 times since I got home and every time I click on ANYTHING in LR5 the program freezes - ie I get the inanely annoying spinny thing!

The thread I'd started earlier was because my Seagate Free Agent aux drive had become invisible to my computer. I don't think these are related but.....

My Dell is only about 6-9 months old. Help!!

For starters to get emergency work done, disable graphics processing and face recognition. They are responsible for many of the current woes.

Oops, I assumed you meant the new LR which is 6, the above ideas apply to it.

Two suggestions: uninstall and reinstall; use another program to get the processing done that must be done now.

I just read your earlier thread, and think the problems very well could be related (no computer guru here, though!). For your work at hand, can you use the software that came with your camera to at least convert your RAW files and do some basic post processing?

First for emergency support, call Adobe or DELL, it will be hard to get real time responses on this or any board.

Now 6 months old does not mean a thing, please specify your computers memory, graphics processor, bus information etc.

Did you try updating to the latest version of LR?
ON a Windows machine you can see all your background processes that start by typing msconfig on a command line. But if you are not very technical I would not go there. Instead get a 10 year old to look at it!

Bottom line, need much more info to help you. Or I/we could continue to shoot in the dark with the info you've provided;
What OS are you running?
Is it a laptop or a desktop?
Does it have shared memory?

Sorry....It's a Dell PC running Windows 8.1 with 12G of RAM. Last night I reset to the furthest back restore date it offered (early April) but LR is still not working nor has the aux drive that disappeared reappeared. I rejected LR's incessant offering to upgrade to LR 6 and THINK I have the latest version of LR5. Let me right click and see what I get.....it says 5.7 64 bit. Is that the latest? I'm about ready to uninstall and reinstall but hate to do that for obvious reasons <sigh>.

And no, I'm not very technical. And YES! I probably DO need a 10 year old. If you need more info just let me know where to find it and I'll look. At the moment I got my assignment turned in and will shoot in jpeg for my next assignment this afternoon so the main pressure is eased.

Thanks for your help.

UHH has lots of folks with varied experience with Lightroom. For real technical questions about Lightroom, I suggest going to the Lightroom Forum.......there are many gurus there that respond pretty quickly to a problem such as yours.

I still don't have enough information. Did you buy the Dell stock from their site or catalog? If so a model number and we can go look up the specs.

The reason I asked about LR6 is because they support using your graphics processor now. Does you vide card support OpenGL? I can't remember if 5.? support using your Graphics Processor or not. In LRCC you can go to >preferences>Performance, and check Use graphics Processor. Or uncheck it if your card does not use a OpenGL engine.

I probably would not uninstall, until I had more information.

It's a Dell Inspiron 23
Intel(R) Core (TM): 7-4770S CPU@3.10GHz 3.10 GHz 64 bit OS, x64-based processor

Hope that's what you need. Don't know the answer to your video card question but my question would be why would LR5 have worked fine up til recently?

Thanks.

What is LRCC? If it's something in LR let me remind you that all I can do is open LR and then I get the spinny thing forevermore.

Good Luck calling Adobe, I called them yesterday was told the wait was 20 minutes I could leave a message and would get a call back. I did that and just out of curiosity I called back again but instead of leaving the message I opted to stay on hold again I was told the wait was 20 minutes. I was in my office so it was easy to leave it on speaker and go about my business. At the same time I started a chat window for support, got the message that all reps were busy and they would chat with me shortly. At the 57 minute mark, someone came on the phone asked how they could help before I could finish he told me his team did not support my problem he needed to get me to another team and before I could say another word he put me back on hold. Finally at 2 hours and 26 minutes I had to leave my office I hung up, No one ever came on the line, no one ever joined my chat and as of right now no one has called me back. I sincerely hope the OP has better luck than I did if they choose to go that route.
