The Nikon 18-140 VR is a very good lens, and a good choice for travel, but if you are going to shoot wildlife or sports you will need something longer.

I have the Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 lens. It's very sharp, has great build quality, and has half the distortion of Nikon's superzoom lenses. It's not quite pro build quality but better than kit lenses.

That is a great lens as long as you are not wanting to shoot birds or animals that are far away. What is your budget? When I want to go light on my walks, I just take my 28-300. It does a nice job.

I've gotten to prefer large aperture, looking for used and refurbished. You can check these links for comparisons of lenses.

A very good and relatively affordable lens is the Nikon 18-105 VR. It can be found refurbished or lightly used for around $200. Try keh.com (the best for used photo gear), B&H, and Adorama.

I just checked keh.com. They have several in excellent condition with caps and hood for around $200. Their EX and EX+ are like brand new lenses. Adorama has factory refurbished ones for $199.95.

I was thinking about that lenses, but their mount is plastic , some people write they broke easy so I was looking 55-140

A metal lens mount is better, but you have to be pretty abusive to break that plastic mount. Nikon has sold an awful lot of 18-105 VR lenses so it's inevitable that some will break due to falls or very rough treatment. Still if you are worried about it, stick to the 18-140 VR.

Adorama has factory refurbished 18-140 VR lenses for $249.95. That's a great price.
