Fantastic shots of some really bad feather days, Sherry! Poor birdies, but they seem to weather the worse storms. I love bird shots like these. They're out of the ordinary, interesting and beautiful. Looks like they might be in for another round of the same tomorrow. I hope not.

Thanks for looking and for your nice comment, Jim. When the storm came, it came fast and furious!

Thanks, rlaugh. The poor birdies didn't appear to have found adequate shelter - but they made it through!

Thank you, Donna. It certainly was a bad feather day for them!

You didn't hope hard enough - dark skies and thunder rumbles all around! And the skeeters have overtaken the swamp that used to be my yard - they nearly carried me off yesterday!

I've never seen skeeters as big as the ones I'm seeing this year...and they're hungry skeeters. Our neighbors are breeding them in their black lagoons..oops..swimming pools. Even the frogs I hear croaking from over there in the evenings are no match for the amount of bugs we have this season.

The white wings are starting to take over our feeders too. Last year I was excited to see one. This year I'm NOT excited to see a feeder full and hardly any mourning doves left.

I swear, some of the mosquitos which have been molesting me are bigger than the hummingbirds! Yesterday I managed to lock myself out of the house and had to wait for Hubby to get out of the shower to let me back in; I was afraid the neighbors were going to call mental health services and have me hauled away for being a crazy lady who was slapping herself all over her face and bashing the top of her head and running around with arms flailing! If I spray for skeeters will it hurt my little birdies and dragons and such?

Thanks for looking and your kind comment, HOT. I have dozens and dozens of white-wings, even after sending dozens up Dixiegirl's way (shhhh, don't tell her it was me).

It depends on what you use, Sherry. You could spray with something 'natural' like Cypermethrin. It's not supposed to hurt the birds, but it doesn't differentiate between insects, so there go your dragons. Can't use it around aquatics either. I think the skeeters have been nuked. I've never seen them this big before. Maybe it's the stuff they spray from the skeeter trucks. Instead of killing them off it makes them mutate. lol
