so now that i can get a macro image, how do i clean my subjects before shooting them?
Very clean! The image, not the bug. Such a strange comment from you, you have always gotten great macro images. Did you hook up an objective? What was the combination? Amazing detail man!

3:1 mag with 70D, 65mm macro, 35 frames, step 50 and LED panels.
Should have used the concave diffusers, too much specular.

May is quarterly mortgage insurance and personal prop tax so it'll be a couple months before i can resume my quest for a 10x microscope objective lens.

insect must have been larger than I thought. It looked greater than 3:1 to me. Even with the negative issues about the light, the clarity seems super nice.

About cleaning, might consider dipping the insect into an ultrasonic cleaner. I imagine how long you leave it in would be a factor, it certainly could destroy a specimen, but I bet it works.

I've been meaning to try this (I got one very cheaply on e-bay), but it is put away right now until our major kitchen remodel effort is complete.

It will be a couple of months, but I promise to find a dirty subject and do a before and after stack to see what happens.
