Sigma 150-500mm on a Canon 70D

I just read about Laura's Sigma 150-600mm on a Canon 7D along with the focus problems. I am looking to purchase the Sigma 150-500mm for my Canon 70D... they are on sale right now for under $800!!! So now's as good a time as any for purchasing this beast.

My question is, is anyone using this glass? If so how do you like it? Plusses and minuses in using this with my APS-C sensor?

I will mainly be using this for bird/animal shots. I know its not the fastest glass in the stable, but its a lot of zoom for not a lot of $$$!

TIA!

I use that lens on my canon 50D. My best results have been using a tripod but I have made several shots of eagles in flight that worked well. I think it will get better with practice. I like the 400MM range best.

I have the Sigma 150-500 and the Tamron 150-600. The Tamron is much sharper and faster to grab focus. Several of my fellow photographers have had a similar experience.
The attached images where shot hand held using the 70D; shot jpg; post processed in acdSee. I did micro adjust my lens; 0 and +10. For the money I paid, I am pleased. The new Canon 100-400 L is a bit sharper, but at a much higher cost.

I think the Tamron 150-600 is the better deal right now.

You can find tons of remarks using the "Search" function. Safe to say that many folks are happy with the 150-500. It may not make your decision any easier!

Bud77 and Buzzo, I envy you having bald eagles flying around! Thanks for your response and help.

Didereaux, are you seeing a sale that I am missing? The best price I find on the Tamron is $1080.00. Did you see a better price somewhere?

DaveO, thanks for the tip... I'll check out the search archives.

I don't have either lens, but I've heard the same comments when comparing Sigma and Tamron beasts. Also, I have several Tamron lenses that I love.

I sure like my Tamron lenses. I just bought a 90mm macro off of ebay, and it looks brand new with tack sharp images. I'm a happy camper!

I'm using it on a Canon 60D and am getting excellent results.

I sent my Sigma 150-500 mm last week, there are several issues with this lens. My motor was getting loud, very slow refresh rate soft at 500mm. I was using it on my Canon 7D. i went back to my older Canon 100-400 mm it still is one of my best lens. I use these lenses for birding.
So, I am waiting for some news from Sigma.

I did recently buy the Canon ESO 7D Mark ll, with the new Canon 100-400 plus the extender 1x.4 I just received them last week, so I field tested on Friday, everything seems to work ok.

I have the extender, and I'm still dreaming about the rest of your new acquisitions. Please post some images with your new gear.

Would you mind explaining how it is "the better deal"? The Sigma 150-600mm Contemperary is $20 more, includes a lens case and at least a few reviews indicate it is sharper than the Tamron.
