Aloe Vera bloom on my back steps

They started opening the day before, I almost waited too long. Just for fun. New camera, D5300 all in auto mode, mounted on tripod, just getting back into DSLR. My old N70 took great pictures, but film is getting hard to print. I had started using p&s and was liking the results I was getting. I decided to take the plunge and see what I could do. Like most casual amatuers, I sometimes get good shots. At least I'm not wasting film taking shots I dont like, but these come out so good on my screen I think I'll keep shooting. Now, if I can find those cartridges I got for my little Epson artisan printer.

Thanks Warrior, I am just getting my 'feet wet' with digital. I've bought several p&s and/or bridge cameras. They were amazing and you didnt have to watch for problems with light/shadows and camera settings. I am pleased that the new DSLRs have this p&s capability in addition to a bit more capability for more serious photography. I have a tremendous amount to learn, but the basics are the same as they have always been, so I'm in luck.

Thanks Simon, I'm glad I can still take a simple 'picture' that is pleasing to the eye, just because it capture's beauty. I turned 69 this week, I hope to get back to grabbing scenes from the planet now that I have a bit more free time. Thanks again.

It sure looks like a lily to me. Aloe Vera is a succulent.

Wow, I rescued this pot with the aloe vera in it from a dumpster, along with the sago palm you see blurrily in the photo. Its raining at the moment, but after while I'll go look and see if there are two plants there or some other explanation. Still pretty tho.

Thanks Craig, the blooms made the shots worthwhile. I have two acres of wods, so thats fertile ground for lots of close up and short field shots. I made some dumb moves thru the years, not growing my photography skills was one of the worst. I just love taking interesting shots (you know so well what I'm talking about) I wish I knew more than I do. I wonder why there had to be a new word for 35mm. It took a little while to figure out what full frame meant, lol. I appreciate the support (and all the technical info)

Definitely not Aloe Vera.
Most likely a variety of amaryllis. Commonly sold as large single bulbs, often as gifts at Xmas time.

Pretty confident the flower is Amaryllis. Very large bulb usually fills the pot. Many different flower variants available. Definitely not aloe
Nice photo

Flower is Amaryllis not Aloe Vera
Grows from a large bulb
Aloe plants have very fleshy leaves with sharp sawtooth edges
Amaryllis leaves very smooth, flat and no “teeth” along edges
