These photographs are a continuation of Wednesday's post of the village of Riquewihr, France, which is in the Alsace wine producing region - a place to put on your travel list when you visit France.

Love your pictures. Do you use a polarizer in some if not most of your shots. I like the flat light and the true colors I see. Or is it in the processing?

They say red wine is good for a host of ails but really, it's not for everyone and I reaspect that.

Have you been following my Chichen Itza post. A.J. gets a kick out of our witty banter. Lord, I wish I was half as smart as people think. On the other hand, maybe most don't. :)

Yes Mike, it started an interesting thread - one never knows where things will lead once started. In reality, it doesn't matter how smart people think you are, it's about how well you use the smarts you have and you seem to do very well in that department.

I just love how they have beautiful window boxes and tubs/ troughs and decorate their balconies with flowers. Excellent set Ted, beautiful colours and interesting streets. Enjoyed the street sign very much, what a jolly fellow!  :D

Yes, Sylvia, they seem to have a great deal of small containers all over the place filled with flowers. Perhaps the villages were so crowded they had to get creative in the way they brought a little color into their lives.
I think a wonderful photo essay could be done on just the signs of a village like that - some are really quite unique and entertaining.
Thanks for stopping in, and do have a wonderful weekend,
ted

Of all the country's I visited, I never touched foot in France. Too bad, too - I took French in High School and it's the only language with which I have a smattering of familiarity. That's OK, I got to use in Tunisia, and Rhodes (of all places). Thanks for showing me what I missed Ted.

For those of you who have never traveled abroad, rest easy - English is almost the universal language of tourism. Someone speaks it just about everywhere you go. Except in Tunisia - then you'd better speak French or Arabic.

Usually when we get back home, I come across something at that destination I missed and wish for a return trip which seldom happens. This gives you another reason to plan a trip to France, Bob.
We found that while in France, they appreciated our attempt to speak their language and are more willing to then converse in English. Some English speakers get rather impatient and sadly, rude with locals that don't converse well in English.
Thank you, Bob, for stopping by again and posting - hope a good weekend in is store for you,
ted

Thank you for dropping in for a look and then posting, chienfou. Yes, I do use a polarizer quite often as it not only helps out the sky colour, but also cuts reflections that can distract. I've learned to be careful however, as I've ruined some photos by overdoing it. With digital it isn't as critical as the many I messed up with film! Using RAW format, all my images are 'processed' to some degree, but I do try to keep that close to what it really is. Have a super day,
ted

Beautiful photos of a lovely place. Seems that in Europe, people have opted for aesthetics and we here have opted for efficiency.

It sure seems that way doesn't it, edie. The Scandinavian countries, while beautiful, seem more practical and utilitarian in much of their design. In many cases, it seems, strangely, that religion had a lot to do with it. Even in this country, there are areas where people live more simple, practical lives and you don't see much 'extra' in the style of buildings.
It is a great observation, and thanks for posting.
Have a great weekend,
ted

Thank you, Earnest. My wish for you is that you be able to take a trip there yourself and see it as it really is. What I share is but a small glimpse of what it's really like.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend,
ted

Thanks, Jules, you are very kind with your compliments - appreciate it. To be honest, however, it's pretty hard to miss when in places like that.
Hope your weekend is really great,
ted

At my age (72) I doubt that it will ever happen, thanks for
the thought Ted.

You never know, we're 71 and going to Tuscany in about five weeks, and my wife is planning a group for a 2016 Danube River cruise. No need to stop now!
