Lightroom And DNG files with metadata

I have not used LR so far, mainly because I'm not going to build my LR library until I get a new Mac and hard drives. Mine is 8 years old. My question involves how LR handles DNG files from film scans that already exist and have been level corrected in Adobe Raw using Bridge. They already have corrected levels and keywords assigned. They have a full complement of info in the Metadata.

Will LR read all of this Metadata plus level changes when it has to absorb them into its library? I ask because I keep reading that levels and keywords are stored in the LR library and not in the image itself. My existing DNG files have the data imbedded in the files themselves.

Not sure if this helps you, but I shoot raw (NEF) and convert to DNG in Lightroom. I store edits and metadata in the images right away, so if I lose the catalog, a reimport brings back my images and my edits and all metadata that would have been lost in the catalog issue. Has not been a problem since moving to Lightroom CC.

Keywords are stored in the image file as well (DNG).

That answers my question about keywords, thanks. But I do have DNG scans of slides that already have been processed with ACR. Will LR CC recognize the processing that has already been done? I kind of think it will but would like some confirmation. (Better known as hand-holding.)

If you want to send me one, I'll look at in Lr and let you know.

Since Lightroom is basically a database & front end to ACR I would say you are good....

If I process an image in Bridge with ACR, then import it into Lightroom it carries everything along with it.

EDIT:

Just did a quick test here, added keywords to an image in Bridge, then opened image in Lightroom - had to read metadata from file once then the new keyword was displayed. I would say you should be fine.

Thanks Don, I think I'm a little more confident now for when I tackle LR.

Thanks for doing that, gives me a little more confidence, if I ever need it :-)
