C.S. Lewis on Reasoning To Atheism

"Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case, nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when the atoms inside my skull happen - for physical or chemical reasons - to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by-product, the sensation I call thought.
But, if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true? It's like upsetting a milk jug and hoping that the way it splashes itself will give you a map of London.
But, if I can't trust my own thinking, of course I can't trust the arguments leading to Atheism, and therefore have no reason to be an Atheist, or anything else. Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God."
C. S. Lewis, The Case for Christianity, p. 32

I see your Lewis and raise you an Einstein.

You certainly aren't in his (Einstein's) league intellectually/mentally. You will never escape the clutches of the devil unless you accept Christ. Period. You can play "the game" to infinity. You can't outthink Christ. Time is running out.

Lewis was kind of a strange one. I have seen it brought into question, exactly where he stood. ??
Have you ever read the Screwtape letters. I have only read portions of them, I don't know if I could handle the whole thing. !!
Strange words from an angry old name caller such as yourself...

I have read it, studied it and still have it. If you don't know where he is going with his book then you won't understand it. His style of writing is hard to follow but he is a very thought provoking Christian and writer.

Was!, a thought provoking Christian and writer. I know where he was going with it, he still had a very strange style.
I prefer straight forward writings, rather than those overburdened by so much symbolism. It just really does not appeal to me. :)
Heart...excellent quote from Lewis. The Einstein quote doesn't even touch the Lewis quote. I think Frank T would be better off quoting Bertrand Russell, if he even knows who he is.

Of course Lewis is dead. To point that out is meaningless. He still IS a good Christian as well as a good writer when referring to his books. They live on in their writings.
Read The Screwtape Letters again but this time let yourself enter into the book as the New Christian that Wormwood is working on. That is the perspective that I believe Lewis would have us to read his The Screwtape Letters.

I'm with you steve regarding the screwtape letters, not my cup of tea either. I personally think his best contribution is "A Grief Observed" If you know a believer who is suffering through a loss this book can be very helpful.
The Screwtape Letters is a series of letters between a senior demon, Screwtape, and an underling demon Wormword, an inexperienced tempter. Screwtape provides Wormwood with strategies for undermining faith and promoting sin. Throughout the letters, observations are made on human nature and Christian doctine.
The book was written as a humorous way to present to people how Satan actually works to undermine their faith and draw them into sin....thus meant to fortify their faith and help them to stand strong against temptation. Apparently it worked, it was a well read book.
C.S. Lewis wrote several types of literature, including The Narnia Chronicles, his Space Trilogy, Mere Christianity (voted the best book of the 20th Century by Christianity Today), The Problem of Pain, The Great Divorce, and others.

Heart,
It is apparent to everyone that you are not capable of debate and usually resort to insults. This is a sign of low intelligence. To say I am not in Einstein's league is merely stating the obvious. Einstein's iq was estimated at between 165 and 170. I have an iq of 135 so I guess I'm not in his league but I venture to guess that you are far below my league.
Blessed Be.

I have enough intelligence, not to take an IQ test. So I won't find out how stupid I am, I mean like - "who cares".

No debate needed. Atheism is failure from the start. The fact that you buy into it shows that you are clueless. Start getting ready.
