31 frame stack of a bumblebee. First use of my new butterfly net. Cooled in the refrigerator. Adjusted the lighting until there was little or no vignette. Uncropped.

It's because of you know. I never would have thought of pulling out that old microscope & stealing parts off of it if you hadn't shown me how. It sure is a lot of work though to get a photo. This being my first, took several hours. What I need, is a place other than my desk so I could leave everything set up. I probably should have titled it better. Yours was the only comment.

I think it is an amazing photo. Yeah, absolutely you need an area to keep things set up at.
Did you ever drill holes in your piece of railroad track?
I had to google Bombus vosnesenskii and found it to be rather mundane. I was sure that it was the name of a rock-and-roll band!!
Edit.... you would have had a million replies if you named the thread "Bombus Haircut"

I figured I could sacrifice one mundane bumble bee to the cause, since I saved 7 swarms of honey bees last year.
I brought it to the basement, but it is really dusty down there. It's too big for my desk. None the less, I'll drill it.
 Only Douglass can rename!

dusty not good, perhaps keep it draped, but basement might have solid floor! How did you save 7 swarms?? that has got to be a story.

Edit -- and you can take another 20 or 30 shots of that bee at your leisure. It's claws, the wing joint, the stinger, the list goes on and on!!!

I caught them & put them into hives.
The stinger isn't that spectacular, but yeah, there are a lot of photo ops on that bee.

I never would have known that a homeless swarm was doomed. I did a quick google and ended up reading your blog for 1/2 hour or so. Laughed and laughed when you wrote about heavy equipment and your stalled jeep. Good stuff you write!!

Only 10 or 15% make it the first year.
Thanks. I seldom post, which is why I have few readers. :-) I dislike typing, never really learned how to do it efficiently.
