I've been meaning to hike up the driveway to get some shots of the latest batch of foals. They're a couple of weeks old in some cases although the little chestnut appears younger. It's interesting that foals born early in the year come equipped with winter coats. I've noticed that summer foals are much less fuzzy.
I also took a couple of shots of some yearlings.
The owner raises these horses for racing. They'll go to auction when they're ready and hopefully become stakes winners at some point. They're all well bred. The owner said he originally paid $130,000 for the gray mare. Hopefully her babies have made the investment worth it.
I should also comment that the fence behind the old gray mare is not a good choice for horse fencing. It's too easy for them to get caught in it and cut up even when they have a large pasture to roam. There's always one that will find a way to get injured. In this case, they've put in some electric wiring to help keep the horses away, but that's not a guarantee.

Some beautiful foals and horses! Great shots...thanks for sharing. Especially like the white momma and the black foal...great contrast and lovely scene. #4 is a very beautiful portrait...
Nice work vicsart. # four is a fav.
My wife volunteers at our local Riding For The Disabled. I go along sometimes to shoot the horses, it's much trickier than I would have thought to get a good shot.
What a beautiful set of some gorgeous horses and foals. thank you for sharing these with us.

Thank you Texcaster. I appreciate the time you've spent here as well as your thoughtful reply.
Congratulate your wife on her volunteer efforts. There are many such programs in our area, and they've proven to be very beneficial.

Every time I go to the barn, I enjoy watching the foals romping in the pasture. I think my horse would like to join them.
Thanks for looking and commenting Andrea. I appreciate it.
Gorgeous shots, Vicki. Some of your very best.

They're certainly fascinating animals especially when they're interacting with each other. They've been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember, and I still keep discovering things about them.
Thanks so much Bob.
Nice work Vicki -- really nice series. It illustrates so well your love of horses and photography.

Thank you my friend. The horses have always taken precedence over other things in my life. Now that I'm getting older, I need other preoccupations that are less risky - although, come to think of it, standing in the middle of the road to get the perfect shot ranks right up there. ;-)
