This spider was on my wall today along with a couple of other things that I will post later on. Unlike some spiders I see often this one is not so hairy and has a huge butt.

Very interesting spider! Good shots!
I only learn them as I meet them & I haven't met that one yet. Maybe a type of trapdoor spider? Douglass should know.
I start with the eye pattern for IDs, then usually post on bugguide for a positive ID.

Difficult to map the eye pattern for ID, from your photos.

Good photo Dennis. I have tried to ID it - it seems to have a level row of 4 eyes, someone will know.

Thanks for the positive comments and the chart. I will have to see about making a copy of it for later use. I had no idea of the eye patterns. Maybe if I can remember them all I could have a Masters degree in entomology, if that is the right term. I suspect I would need to learn much more though.

Thank you, Erv for the compliment. I do get somewhat buggy here from time to time. Occasionally I check the yard and see nothing (though that doesn't mean nothing is there) and other times I see lots to photograph. Yesterday was a busy day and today the brown widow spider is out by the front door again.

Oh sure, blame me. Ha... I did try to get him walking toward me but he had other ideas. Maybe next time he will stay still and face me.

Thanks, Brenda. He does seem different from other spiders I have seen around here, less hair and the legs seem different especially up around the knees where it looks like he is wearing bracelets. He also seems to have more of a hard beetle shell up front than other spiders.

That works for me. Of course so does any other spider name you can think of. Hopefully I will see him again coming at me.
