All beautiful photos. Not sure about the ID though. The beak does look like a grosbeak but the bird doesn't look large enough, although difficult to tell without some perspective.

The mystery bird is about the same size (maybe a bit smaller) than a Towhee but bigger than a sparrow. Thanks for taking time to reply Judy. I appreciate it.

Hi Vickie, lovely shots! I think I found your bird; I believe it's a type of Grosbeak; here is the link I found it in. http://www.google.com/search?q=grosbeaks+birds&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=895&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=lH03VbflJsyyggTl8IHABA&ved=0CF0Q7Ak

Once again, these are nice shots, Vicki. I'm fairly certain the questionable bird is a young, female Black-headed Grosbeak. I just saw that there had been several other replies since I last looked at your last post. Oh well, at least it looks like we're all on the same page. :D

That's what I'm guessing, too. Thanks for taking time for the ID and the comments Tim.

Thank you prcb. I think one of my photos shows the male, but I didn't like the shot well enough to post.

The first two shots are the mystery bird which I hope someone can ID since I'm usually wrong. The sparrow and female oriole are included since they are all different from what I've been shooting (Golden Crowned Sparrows and Hummingbirds).

Nice images...fairly certain the first two are female Black-Headed Grosbeaks

Impressive photos vicksart.
I was wavering between Black-headed and Rose-breasted Grosbeak; the dark bill says Black-headed.
The bill on Rose-breasted would be lighter.

Compare, take note in bill coloration.

Female Rose-breasted Grosbeak
