Bill Hudson conned me into joining him at 7am for a morning of insect shooting. My alarm sounded before dawn. I really did not think this through. We started at Madrona Marsh, then on to South Coast Botanic Garden. Here are fifteen images.
Each photo captured with a hand-held Nikon D5200 at ISO 200, with Nikkor 105G macro lens, 1/200-sec at f/16, Nissin Di866 speedlight with 6x8-inch FotoDiox softbox diffuser, output adjusted to subject color & Working Distance.

I see it pays to get up early! Nice assortment & that fly in image 10 is one bizarre creature! I like!
Looks good; I like the hoppers and the "unknown fly."
Glad Bill conned you into going.
;-)
10/11 with the crazy eyeballs made your trip worthwhile.
Good for Bill or we wouldn't have the benefit of seeing more of your excellent work.

I agree with the young man from Ohio!
This is a nicely captured series!
Outstanding series! Good to see you posting. I always enjoy the variety you find. #10 & #11 are absolutely outstanding. Well worth the early trip.

Well, kicking and screaming or not, I just wanted to see if Douglass still knew which end of the camera was which  And, as you can see, a swift kick in the pants produced some very nice images. Douglass can still takes fewer shots and have far more keepers than I do. I just don't have the same discipline he does......yet ;)
Glad you got up early, these shots were worth it. Nice work.

Maybe that's called "Film Discipline". LOL A fresh roll in the camera & a spare roll in the pocket. 48 shots for the day! Makes ya frame carefully.

One Morning! If I see that many insects in a season I am lucky. Great work. REJ
