and here I thought welfare and food stamp people were just shiftless bums, sitting around all day, doing drugs, eating steak and shrimp, making babies to get paid more - you know, just sponging off of all us productive people!

These facts are going to confuse right wingers.

Not confusing me.... It simply illustrates that the current administration isn't doing enough to generate good quality jobs as opposed to minimum wage jobs. That plus there needs to be educational programs in place to get the unskilled & low skilled people better skills in order to acquire better paying jobs. I had already read that article & posted in the comments in response to someone suggesting a raise in the minimum wage. Once again, not all of the facts are presented. Only facts designed to generate a certain response are discussed...

The only thing the government needs to do to create more better paying jobs and to stabilize the entire economy is to mind it's own damn business.

You make yourself sound very foolish. It's obvious from your post that you base your opinion on conservatives on the small minority of extremists. That kind of bias makes it very difficult to have any real dialog and typically serves only to put people on the defense and then leads to name calling. I must say it surprises me a bit as I thought you to be one of the more communicative liberals here. BTW I'm one conservative who has no objection to raising the minimum wage, I would only hope we'd keep it reasonable because raising the MW will have an impact on the rest of the economy driving prices and costs up which has a dramatic impact on those who are on fixed incomes.

We only have ourselves to blame what with wanting cheaper prices... It's a double edged sword

Pepper, the problem is that you are judging everyone by your set of values and they differ greatly from those of the vast majority of conservatives here. I can see why Walsh threw this out here, it's because they (cons) are always complaining. You're the anomaly here...it's refreshing.

Thanks for the kind words I guess when I see someone refer to the "right wingers" or "repuks" or "repubs" and so on I assume they're talking to or about me along with everyone else. Its that wide brush thing again.

Yeah true, but after reaping what we have sown.
Would we pay higher prices for higher quality made
US products to keep our country men working
giving them a higher standard of living

Our autos are just now getting back up to snuff after being bested in both price & workmanship by the Japanese and others. That said, we would still have to compete on price in order for them to sell. German vehicles are high quality & higher prices than the Japanese cars, but sales are not there because of price. Seems only the wealthy can afford those higher priced vehicles, not so much with the average Joe & those at the bottom of the barrel can only afford the least expensive models, if that.... If you can't tell, I worked in auto distribution for a Japanese nameplate for 25 years prior to retiring 3 years ago... Much of our manufacturing has gone overseas.. The quality of the foreign goods is there so it comes down to price for many people.

When I say right wing or left wing, I mean the extremists, the small but loud minorities. Only one right winger has chimed in on this thread so far, and his statement was pretty mild this time.

I identify as more conservative than liberal, though I do hold some liberal views on a handful of topics.

I also am not against raising the min wage a little, hasn't been done in a while. However, I do not think it needs to be a "living wage." One should not expect to support family with min wage job.

I'm not against raising it per se either. That said, I feel it should be a State or local issue, not a Federal one, since living standards are not equivalent across the country...

I appreciate the explanation and I do agree with your thoughts.
