A friend gave me the Sigma 150-500 with VR to use on our Outer Banks trip next week, he is going to sell it for $300.00 which sounds like a great deal. I'd like the new Tamron, but I'm thinking this Sigma will be a done deal. Any suggestions / comments on this combo? thanks! ( D7100 )

At $300, that Sigma is a steal, go for it. If you ever decide you NEED the extra 100mm you can always sell that lens at a profit.

The 150-600 is considerably sharper. But the 150-500 is ok.

Now that's an amazing deal...and for that price if it ever hits the public market...gone in 60 seconds.

Thanks for everyone's input- I tuned it in to the d7100 and will see how sharp it is on a tripod and will keep it, maybe sell it later to go for the Tamron, but I'm in no rush to do that. Just excited to have my first big lens!

My wife has the sigma on a d5200 and I have the tamron on a d7100...both are excellent lens for the price I paid which was retail...for $300...that's just insane...go for it...

If it shoots well on a d5200 it will shoot better on a 7100.

Bud,
I just recently bought that same lens in like new condition for $500. I had been watching them and hadn't seen nice ones less than $600 so I was please with the deal I got. Give him the $300 quickly.

At $300.00 grab it and run. I have the Sig 150-500mm for my D7100 and really like it.

I have that same combo and love it, if you don't grab it for that price someone else here will.

Your friend will have no problem selling it for that price.

Good shooting.
