I love it when this happens!

Recently, I made a fantastic buy from a Craig's List ad.... five boxes of mattes, frames and odds and ends from a defunct photo shop for $50.00. Included in this hoard was eight High School photo albums, NIB, which I had ABSOLUTELY NO use for. I ended up trading them, straight across, for a pristine SMC Pentax-M 28mm, f:3.5 lens.

According to the reviews on this particular lens, it should be quite a piece of glass. I currently have the f:2.8 version, but I've never been all that impressed with it, so this should be a pretty good up-grade. The Craig's List items have already paid for themselves..... and I STILL have a case of 11" x 14" mattes and 26 frames!

I love it when things like this happens!

That's good news...sometimes when you take a chance, it comes up big.

Sounds like you got a very nice deal. The Pentax lens should give you some great shots, and hope we get a chance to see a few results on UHH.

Yep, I'm hoping it pans out. I own several 28mm lenses of various brands, Pentax, Ricoh, Vivitar, CPC & Sears and the Sears has proven to be the best of the lot up till now. My f:2.8 Pentax 28mm hasn't shown me much.... it seems quite soft, and to me, that's a cardinal sin! I'm obsessed with sharpness and if it ain't sharp, it don't last long around MY house! Others have reported very good results with theirs, so maybe I just got a bad copy. That happens occasionally, but we'll see if the f:3.5 is better.

Your experience with the Pentax 28mm f:2.8 sound very similar to my experiences with a Sigma 28 f:2.8. The results improved when I put it on a tripod, but I would rather have the versatility of using it in candid situations.

I'm slowly but surely learning to trust the anti-shake feature of my Pentax K-50. It works remarkably well in most situations, but when the chips are down and I want a REALLY sharp image, I ALWAYS use either a monopod or a tripod. These 70-year-old hands are just too shaky any more! :|
