I would like some advice on how to store my digital pics while on vacations. Should i just get a bunch of memory cards and store them on there? or should i bring along an external harddrive to download them to at night and then format my cards? i may have access to a computer some of the time. wish cameras had a feature to plug in a flash drive to the camera and just move them from the memory card to flash drive! any other options i am not thinking of?
thanks!
I usually travel with two memory cards and two sets of batteries that I carry with the camera throughout the day. My husband packs a lap top so I can download each night. I also pack and keep with my personal items my cable for transfer, my charger to keep batteries charged, and a small stick for back up. I try to start each day with the cards blank and batteries charged.
i will not have access to my personal computer so that is where my problem is going to come in.
have you thought of shutterfly or some web storage site.. guess was posting when u were
I always carry extra memory cards, a Hyperdrive for backing up the cards each night, an Ipad for quick editing and review.
You can find the Hyperdrive here:
http://www.hypershop.com/HyperDrive-iPad-Hard-Drive-s/183.htmI will also carry a laptop some times. This way I have at least 2 copies of every raw file, one on the laptop and one on the Hyperdrive. Then I rotate the memory cards and format the oldest ones first, for re-use, giving me another backup copy of the files. I hate to lose any photos.
I would rather carry memory cards then a hard drive...I like to travel light as possible.
i dont have an ipad. though would love to!

Check these out. I've not used any of them but they look interesting.

One nice thing about the D7000...two card slots...with 8 gig cards enough for nearly 2000 shots at high res. If you have only one slot you might actually consider a 16 gig card. That should cover you unless you're going on safari and shooting multiple bursts.
If, by chance, it appears as though you're going to fill up your cards, chances are you'll be close to some outlet selling them.
kikos could transfer to 500 gig external or a computer store
true, i will just need alot!
i do have the nikon d 7000. great camera! and i have 2 -16 GB cards. but if i shoot any in raw it will eat them up. maybe i should just shoot in fine jpeg.
good luck... AN WE BETTER GET TO SEE SOME.. ok lol
there's an idea. the cheaper one is kind of like a 250 gig flash drive!
awesome.
