If you had up to 500.00 to spend on a lens that you would use to photograph the Grand Canyon. What lens would you purchase? It is for a Canon t5i. I currently own an 18-270 lens. If this is a good one to use I'm all set. But I want to have the best lens for the "Grandest" photo shoot :) I will have only one chance and don't want to mess it up.

Maybe something wide: KEH has a 24 & 28 f/2.8- used both under 500 clamsÂ….
the 18 to 270 is a great lens for the Grand Canyon. I would also make sure you have a polarizer and a n/d filter.best time to shoot is early morning light or afternoon about 6pm.I hope you have a great time there.there is so much to see.

I don't shoot Canon, but I would recommend the ef-s 10-18mm lens that I believe is a new ultra wide angle lens.

You have the long end covered with the 18-270.
With a crop sensor body, you might want something wider. This is a pretty good guide to Canon wide angle lenses (though I doubt any of them fit your budget unless you can find them used):

The lens if fine for shooting the Grand Canyon. I will put the money to good filters, tripod and shutter release.
Have fun and enjoy yourself.
Thanks for all of your thoughts and recommendations. I appreciate every ones input. Will post some pictures when I get back from the GC. End of this month.

Looking forward to seeing some great images from you!
Your 18-270 mm lens will be fine. As others have said, bring a circular polarizing filter and a ND filter. The Grand Canyon is wonderful for panoramic photographs, so bring a good tripod. Regularly running shuttle buses will reduce the time lugging equipment. It's a wonderful experience. Enjoy yourself.

Not too sure what lens to recommend better than the one you have, but I WOULD recommend a tripod for panorama shots. Have a great time, I envy you your trip.

20 mm (FX equiv.) view (single frame)
Panoramic shot would be another way to handle the expanse.
Tokina 11-16. 2.8. $479. I am very pleased with mine. Be sure to have a circular polar filter too. I would still do some panoramas as this is the place if ever there was one. Take several just to be safe.
I8 should be good, would think about renting a lens real wide one for a one time trip. Spent two weeks in the canyon rafting and I used a 16-35 and my wife used 70-300, all the photos were good but I lean to the wide.
