Using a cord is limiting. You really should consider wireless radio triggers

The SC28 or SC29 will give you about 9 feet off camera. If you want more the SB800 is compatible with the SU 800 command unit and you won't need a cord

Or set up your built in flash as remote commander.

Depends on your flash unit.

I asked that question here in the past. People will tell you that you "should" be using a wireless system. Others will recommend cords that are either not very durable or are too expensive. I tried them all.

I finally went with a set of Lumopro hot shoe adapters and a simple standard miniphone cable between them. Not fancy, but simple, afdfordable and durable.

Midwest Photo Exchange has a set with cable:

Note that this limits you to manual flash, but that is all I need.

Good point. What is the flash in question?

If the 810 has a built in flash then you don't need a cord. The flas can be used to trigger an SB 800 on commander mode

Greenguy33: As long as you want; they come in different lengths. OR you can keep the one on your camera and get several other lights and slave them ... no cords needed. That way you can have a multiple light set up.

Greenguy33, don't be lazy, do a little research before asking. AND you gave no details of what your distance will be, goals ... $ budget... and yes, could be that radio is better Ebay is a good source of low cost good units... if you want ego factor then buy "name brand."

Sorry, but I taught 9th grade students yesterday.... dah!!!

See: http://www.scantips.com/lights/trigger.html
I quickly found this by Googling "Methods for remote flash"

I have the Nikon SC-29 TTL Off-Camera Shoe Cord and it works flawlessly with my D7100 and SB700 flash. All of the data from the camera to the flash and back is transmitted flawlessly. The cord seems to be well constructed, and after considerable use it looks like new.

Do you want TTL metering or are manual flash control?

How much do you want to spend?
