I finally did it.. went and got a tamron 70-200 f/2.8 for my sony a99. It's big and heavy but I'm able to hand hold it and still get crisp clear shots, even at slow shutter speeds as low as 1/15 sec. The autofocus is fast and very quiet. Between this new lens and my zeiss/sony 24-70 f2.8. I've got most of my shooting covered. Next I'll be adding a 150-600 either Sigma or Tamron again.

Congratulations on your new lens. Enjoy
thanks Mac, was holding out for the sony 70200 g2 at more than twice the price. Saw the specs on the Tamron and decided to do it. So far I'm very pleased with the build quality and the performance. It's my first non camera brand lens ever.

When I look at my exif data in Lightroom , under lens there is no entry. This lens is not showing up. I do see a number under focal length but the lens itself is not showing up. Any thoughts?
Not bad at all! However, I do detect seeing noise even without the download. I wonder why this is? Were at a high ISO? Still, nothing to write home about. I have an older Sony 28-85 Zeiss lens and I love it! The only problem is that the lens weighs more than the camera and bounce flash combined. Lol. Back in December, I broke away from my tradition of sticking with Minolta or Sony lenses and bought a used 28-105 Tamron lens. It is not a F2.8, but it takes excellent pictures almost the same I.Q. as my Sony Zeiss. Just look at my last 50 posts. Ha, ha!
As for the lens not showing up in the exif data, don't worry about it. Half of my lenses never show up either. It doesn't seem to affect the image quality.

I have that 70-200 and love it for my weddings.
