Recently went to Chile and then Easter Island (Rapa Nui). Wonderful place to be. The Moai (statues) are much more impressive in person and than any photo could show.

Very nice varied series; Valparaiso look like an interesting place to visit. The moai on Easter Island are so interesting; I like the monochrome shot of them very much.

Thanks. It was a wonderful place to visit. Got to practice my very limited Spanish.

Hi thewrightthings: Excellent set of photos. A couple of questions, my wife
and I are planning to go to Easter Island. How close were you able to get
to the statues, also what time of the year did you go, also was this a
combined trip with Peru or two trips? Thank you for any info you can
provide.

You can get with 10 -20 ft. of the statues (Moai), some almost to the base. It is really an awesome experience.
I was there a few weeks ago. I went with Road Scholar (formerly Elder Hostel). As always, we had a great learning experience, as well as trip. It was a trip to Chile and Easter Island(belongs to Chile, but it 2400 miles away.) It is the most remote place on earth, called the Navel of the Earth.
Hint: When you go, call it Rapa Nui, the natives don't particularly like 'Easter Island'. They have done a wonderful job with restoration and reforestation of the island. It is quite small, about 63 sq. miles, but lots to do and see.
Hope that helps. Any other questions, feel free to ask.
