Unless it's their orientation to the sun, I don't know. I see the same thing here. There are some across the street that bloomed last Friday. They face south. The one's on our side of the street face west and are just opening today. We also have a number of magnolias that are doing the same thing in various parts of our apartment complex. My wife seems to think it may have to do with how deep the bulbs were planted. Shallower planting equals earlier blooming.
The orientation theory goes out the window at my house. My wife planted some tulip that never get any sun. I have some on the south side of the house that gets lots of sun, but never hardly bloom. The ones that will bloom seem to be taking their time. The bulbs are no more than 4 inches deep. So, who knows?
