2 shots I experimented with last night. My Canon T2i was recently converted taking the factory correcting filter out and a Baader Planetarium DSLR-Astro Conversion Filter.
Imagers can now gain full efficiency at H-Alpha wavelengths, and at full resolution (the Baader filter eliminates the Canon factory moire filter,
1. Is the Orion Nebula
Meade 8" 2000mm
f/10
30 sec
ISO 1600
2. Is the 83% Waxing Moon
Meade 8" 2000mm
f/10
1/100 sec
ISO 125

Nice series Craig... I hope to get my scope out one clear night soon... I got it out in my room and put it together... had it packed away... Now I need to find all of the adapters for it and the camera...

Hello Bruce, Thank you and I hope Spring comes real soon for you guys back East.
My seeing will be over soon when June Gloom hits.

I have to ask Craig.:) What is June Gloom? I am thinking the smog? I don't think I could handle that if it keeps me in the house at night. I love to be outside and just watch the stars and some times the Moon.

Good shot of Orion! The moon ain't bad either, especially the second one. You'll have to experiment with custom white balance, then you can still use the camera on daytime shots...and the moon would appear more natural also.

Hi Erv. On the West Coast near the beaches we have fog that rolls in every night and hangs until 10:00AM or so.
It usually starts in May and then it's called May Grey. This lasts from May to mid Aug. Sometimes until Oct.
This all depends upon the El Nino and La Nina effects in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean.
