My adult niece is interested in getting into landscape photography and has a budget of around 1000.00. I've been using a Canon 5DII since they came out and, unfortunately, am not very familiar with the most recent offerings at her budget level. Trying to save myself some research time, so hoping for some suggestions that I might pass on to her. Thanks.

Most likey, she's going to need to hit the used/refurbished market. Is that ok?

I have Nikon D7000 twice and D7100.
But I prefer the DMC-FZ1000 Lumix of Panasonic with the 25 - 400 mm for a lot of reasons. Lighter, great photos and prize around that amount.

When you say getting into, what do you mean? Is she wanting to make money at it? Is she just wanting to enjoy the photography?
I only know Nikon DX systems (and the Olympus M1 -- over budget) so i could only recommend that ...
for example, a Nikon D5300 with a kit lens is about $800.

I've owned a lot of cameras in 50 years. I have three favorites from the last few years. Many still believe it has to be a DSLR from Nikon or Canon to be credible. I no longer am in that group. Read no further if your standards require big, bulky, heavy cameras with mirrors that have a noisy flapping sound and require expensive and massive lenses.

Sony RX100 is incredibly small, captures wonderful images and provides both manual and automatic shooting:

Panasonic LX100 is a little larger, has external control knobs, the style of a traditional rangefinder and a marvelous lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=panasonic+lumix+dmc-lx100&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ps

Panasonic GX7 is larger yet, has interchangeable lenses, comes with a great lens, offers an immense variety of features and controls and is now priced fairly low as it is being phased out. In other words, it is a bargain right now: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/997465-REG/panasonic_dmc_gx7sk_lumix_dmc_gx7_mirrorless_micro.html

Price range of the three is between $800 and $900, especially when buying from B&H were sales tax is not normally charged and shipping is free.

I own all three and would be happy to answer specific questions.

Good suggestion.
If wanting the latest and greatest pre order the T6s or T6i with the same lens and much upgraded sensor, AF etc. for a little over $1000.

I wanting full frame for landscape then better look at used market.
