My husband & I were out & about looking for Birds of Prey & critters & he noticed the clouds full of color. I have never seen anything quite like this - only sundogs & very short vertical rainbows of some sort but never quite like this. I just wanted to share. I thought it was beautiful!
wow - these are so lovely! thank you for sharing! :D
Beautiful and delicate. Good capture.

Thank you! (I always have one of my camera's with me at ALL times, lol) I'm glad I had my a77, though. The Sony P&S I have didn't capture the color.....
Cool stuff, I see this but very rarely. Wish I lived on a big hill so I could be more shots of storm clouds. Those can sometimes be amazing. Great Job Stephie!
Stephie - Very cool! I love cool sky/cloud shots and this one is certainly a keeper! I've never seen anything like it. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks James. Cool that you have experienced this - this was my 1st. :) I wish I lived at a place like that too, I would love to photograph storms - especially lightning! :D

They certainly are lovely. Almost magical.
Interesting. I wonder what's causing that--a reflection off water? Ice crystals, tho it doesn't quite look like a sun dog. Great job catching it, whatever the cause!

simply beautiful cloud shots!
I have never seen this before, very cool, thanks for sharing. Wikipedia describes it as follows:
Cloud iridescence is the occurrence of colors in a cloud similar to those seen in oil films on puddles, and is similar to irisation. It is a fairly uncommon phenomenon, most often observed in altocumulus,[1] cirrocumulus, lenticular clouds and cirrus clouds.[2][3][4] The colors are usually pastel, but can be very vivid. Iridescence is generally produced near the sun, with the sun's glare masking it, so it is more easily seen by hiding the sun behind a tree or building. Other aids are dark glasses, or observing the sky reflected in a convex mirror or in a pool of water.
Iridescent clouds are a diffraction phenomenon caused by small water droplets or small ice crystals individually scattering light. Larger ice crystals produce halos.
If parts of clouds have small droplets or crystals of similar size, their cumulative effect is seen as colors. The cloud must be optically thin, so that most rays encounter only a single droplet. Iridescence is therefore mostly seen at cloud edges or in semi-transparent clouds, and newly forming clouds produce the brightest and most colorful iridescence. When a thin cloud has droplets of similar size over a large extent, the iridescence takes on the structured form of a corona, a central bright disk around the sun or moon surrounded by one or more colored rings.
