I suspect that most of the people in the neighborhood ignore the 30 mph limit! We have speed bumps in our 25 mph residential area for that reason!

I think you missed the whole point I was trying to make. If you want to limit speeds to 30 MPH then put in 30 MPH speed bumps. It makes no sense to limit drivers to 15 MPH with a speed bump in a 30 MPH zone!! ...... Coot

Here's government thinking:

I lived in a community where the cops were too lazy to police for speeders.
So they put in speed bumps.
Normally most people would drive thru at about 30mph.
Now, since they have to slow down to about 2 or 3 for the bumps, they make up time between bumps by doing 70.

Much safer for the kids.

If it's anything like here the speed bump is in the 15mph zone. The 30mph limit begins where the 30mph sign is. It signifies the change from 15 - 30. If I were visiting and driving that is how I would interpret the situation.

I think "30 MPH speed bumps" would be just ordinary roads. :D

The speed limit here is 30 mph, but people tend to go faster, so, they put in a speed bump to force people to slow down - unless they're driving someone else's car, of course.

Overall, it seems like a ridiculous situation. Do you really want people slowing that much on a road. I've seen that situation before in malls, but never on a public road.

And "Speed Table"? Is that even a legitimate term? How about "Progress Interferometer"?

There was a housing development near here that had speed limit signs like, "15 1/2 MPH" and 12 1/2 MPH." They did it just to be cute and call attention to the signs.

You just have to be amused. In my area we have a yellow 30 MPH "Intersection Ahead" sign that was placed ten feet in front of the regular white 45 MPH speed sign. So I always wonder if I am supposed to drop down to 30 MPH for the ten feet between signs - well before the intersection. But you know - it's government work - someone's job was to install the sign - not to actually think about what they were doing...

Read between the lines. These speeds equate to 25km/hr & 20km/hr. Backdoor metrication? Not happened here (for roads) yet but this is how it begins. Not saying it will, but there could be a little more than coincidence here.

I thought the 30 mph sign was just a suggestion. As part of the total lack of respect for the law that is now apparent in the USA, no one seems to drive the speed limit. They use is as a base suggestion only.

White signs are the actual must follow signs. Yellow signs are only advisory. Which means that going past a yellow 15 MPH sign at 30 is not illegal. But because of thew bump, it is advised.
