This old school house could tell a lot of stories. Now it is just an upstairs room of light and shadow.

We have quite a few them in this area. They're either falling apart or have been converted into homes. Our local school system was only organized in the 1950's. Before that, it was local elementary schools. High school kids took the train into Kingston. Now I think they plan to rip up the tracks to make a hiking trail. I hope it doesn't come to that.

They tore down your high school in 1901? It broke your heart? I'm surprised your heart is still working. :D

Nicely balanced picture.

Someone must be taking some care of this schoolhouse, except for what look like green stains (moss?) on the ceiling, it looks to be in pretty good shape.

Actually the green cast in the ceiling and the wall is not stains or moss but the color from the leaves on the trees being projected from outside the window. You can find this old school house in East Poultney, Vermontin the neighborhood were Horace Greeley use to live off Route 140.

I didn't think of that, but it makes sense; thanks for the reply. Many years ago when the kids were small (youngest is now 40) we toured Vermont several times with a pop-up camper, and Rt. 140 & East Poultney seem to ring a bell, but it's a long time back for an aging memory.
