That's great. Let us know if everything was fixed to your satisfaction when you get the lens bsck.

Yes ... the lens works perfectly now! On the enclosed invoice, it says, "The upper cover assembly had been impacted causing the focus ring to catch. The upper cover assembly was replaced and product functions were confirmed."

Not sure how the upper cover assembly had been "impacted," but ... who knows. All I know is that I have my fully-functional lens back and it came back 9 days after I shipped it off. I'm a happy camper. :D

Maryann, your lens was dropped. "Impacted" is the euphemism for "dropped". It is a great lens, renders fantastic images! It's versatile. Choke it down, feed it light and marvel at the results. BUT, it is very fragile. Lens can get damaged while in protective cases. We all experience it, live and learn. The good news.....? You now have a refurbished lens for a very low price! Please share some of your results whenever you are able.

UPDATE: I shipped the lens to the Costa Mesa, CA Canon facility on March 30. It was received at the lab on April 1. The lab there didn't have the needed part, so Canon sent it to a lab back east - NJ, I think. Today, April 7, it's on a FedEx truck and will be back in my hands in a couple hours. Pretty quick, if you ask me!

Canon Customer Service tells me the problem was the filter ring assembly and it had to be replaced.

The total cost was $177 ... that includes shipping both ways. And my valuable personal property insurance covered every bit of it. Can't wait to get my lens back!

IMHO Canon is tops! I'm glad it all turned out good for you maryann!

Well, it sure hasn't been dropped from my hands. Maybe something fell on top of the camera bag. But there were no marks on it whatsoever, so ... I still have no idea. And nobody but me touches my camera gear.

Yes ... I'll post something next time I use it. Didn't feel a closeup of a credit card bill would be worthy and that's what I used to see if AF and MF worked ... and if the focus ring was nice and easy.

I don't think the word "impacted" in Canon speak means the lens was dropped. Just being jostled around the bag could have caused this situation with your lens. After all, lenses are fragile to some extent. I'm glad the situation was handled so well, and resolved. Enjoy your wonderful macro lens.
