False Geek Squad Cold Call -- PHISHING

Just a warning to all of you hoggers out there. I received a cold call from someone claiming to be with geek squad telling me that they had detected a virus on my "Windows system" and that I should login so they could check it out for me.

The caller spoke with an Indian accent. I told him that I needed to set up my PC and I would call him back ASAP. He gave me this number: 855-481-5399 and said his name was Logan or Lugin.

I called a local geek squad at a nearby Best Buy to confirm if this was a legitimate call. He said absolutely not.

Geek squad does not call customers and only responds when customers call them.

BEWARE -- the phishing SOBs/AHs are alive and well.

I got one of those one time, said my computer was causing errors on the internet. I strung him along for a few minutes and when he asked what was on my monitor, I fibbed and said I was looking at an article about people who call you and tell you that you computer is causing errors and try to get access to your system. He said "oh." and hung up...

I string them along for a while then say, "tell your mommy to get you a real job."

string them along like you are selling something to them like Obama guaranteed green cards. Ask them for their birthdate and then say, 'you just got that lucky date' and ask him/her all kind of personal questions, like what is your mothers birth date etc. Keep a list and then read it back to them for confirmation.
