If lens interchageability doesn't matter, does anyone have experience with both the Canon G 1X and the Sony a6000? This would be my "walking around" camera. I don't print bigger than 16x20, usually 11x14. I'm mainly interested in image quality, ease of use & "pocketability". I enjoy post processing so as long as the native image is good, I'll play with the rest. There aren't any camera shops in my area that carry both brands. Before I go to New York your input is appreciated. Thanks. PS: My UHH screen name is dnathan (an old moniker automatically issued when I joined UHH) but please call me Mike.
I love my A6000 for carry around. I have 55-210mm and 50mm lenses. The quality of the pics is fantastic. It's loaded with features like DSLRs.
Just got my a6000 and am amazed! I use a wrist strap with it as it's light and portable enough for me to shot my 200 a day inspection pics that need no post processing, along with any great shots I can find! Still learning through Gary Fong's videos what this awesome camera can do!
The G1X shines when it comes to image quality due to the 1.5 inch sensor. There isn't much else to be said about this camera that is favorable, other than you can get one now for $399. It fits your criteria. Is it a better camera than the A6000? Not a chance.
Hard to compare the 2 cameras, but I have an NEX 3 Sony and aG1X canon. The sony is mirror less and operates pretty much like an slr-but is smaller really than the g1x -when the sony has a short lens on it-like the 16mm. My main reason to carry the g1x is for street shooting, and the great Canon lens and processor in camera. I know the sony color can be adjusted but the g1x color is more to my liking for nature and portraits. The sony is sharper and more flexible with great options. Hard to really compare these 2.
Thanks to all of you. I think I knew the answer, but trying to save some $$$.
If you're going to New York city, go by B+H camera and look at both, then buy the A6000. No fan boy here, lol.
Just know B+H is closed Saturdays.
