My new longer lens(AF-S Nikkor 55-300mm 4.5-5.6 G ED VR) arrived a few days ago. I took my first shots with it this morning. Both shots were set at 1/500 f/11 ISO 200. The first shot was hand held with VR and the second shot was on a tripod, no VR.

Hello. Anybody out there?
Good moon jkm757, I was also shooting the moon this morning at that time but was really cloudy and didn't get anything that I thought looked fabulous.

Thank you Georgiann. Sorry to hear you were not able to get any good pictures this morning. At least with the moon you know you will have other opportunities throughout the year.
looks very similar to the one I saw in New Mexico...

When I was at Princeton a fellow student and I decided we'd take a picture of the moon at the same time one night. Then we would put the pictures, taken a thousand miles apart, together to make a 3-D image. We never followed through. But it would have proved interesting and the Princeton professors would have been impressed.

The hand held shot looks as good as the tripod shot. Good job.
