Leica V-Lux (Typ 114)
Does anyone own one of these? I've read really good and really bad opinions on this. I'm looking for something above a point-and-shoot, but one that is all inclusive instead of the wide-angle and the telephoto lens which get to be heavy to carry around. It has a 3-year warranty and includes Lightroom.
This is the situation I am in, from one of the Amazon commenters "Am in my mid 70's and unless there is a real need it is too heavy to cart my high end Canon with multiple lenses and a suitcase full of gear when this camera performs almost as well" I'm older than this person since I'm in my late 70s, and I agree which is why I was looking for a really good all-in-one digital. I also read about the flimsy switches, which was my concern; however, with a three-year warrantee, this should help if there is an issue. I'm not rough-handed with any of my equipment, so I shouldn't have an issue. Thanks for the link. Again, if anyone here has one, let me know your opinion - if you're happy with it. Best wishes, Nancy B.

I'm predigest. Been using Leicas for over 50 years. (M's)
They are the highest quality. Best lenses made.
Picture quality second to none.
If you want to take a ride, Leica in the USA is located in N.J. They will show you their models.
I can't help you with the V-Lux. I don't have that model.
Good luck,
Walt
I have owned a Leica D lux 4 for quite awhile. I love it because it's light & takes great pictures.
I 'upgraded' to this Leica from a Nikon CoolTouch P500, mainly because of that HUGE hunk of glass staring at me from the camera store's showcase. I bought it about 3 months ago, and I'm still learning all its bell's & whistles. Had the new P900 been in the store, I would have seriously considered it, though. I'm thinking of trying to trade the Leica for the new Nikon, just because it's a Nikon. I don't think you'll go wrong with it. I has a 25-400mm equalivent zoom, ultra high ISO to ~ 25,000, shoots raw + jpg. It has about 25 'scene' modes, and has a good intervalometer that'll be fun to use. It has both auto & manual focus, and either power or manual zoom - but not both. It is kinda pricey, though ~$1,400.00. I really don't think you'll go wrong with the camera. Good luck.
I'm getting it at Sammys in NYC at less than $1000 - don't remember specifically, and, of course, Lightroom at no charge and the 3-year warranty. Glad to hear positives about it. I've always wanted a Leica. Actually this is the same model as one of the Panasonic digitals, but they threw in a few more goodies and one of the reviews stated it's better made. When I use a photo vest, then I can take both telephoto and wide angle, but it's just too much for me to carry otherwise. I'm doing a day bus trip to NYC in a few weeks - this should be perfect for that - walking around most of the day. Thanks and best wishes, Nancy B.
I have the DMC-FZ 1000 LEICA of Panasonic, since a couple of months. I use a lot more than my Nikon D 7100. Photos are great, a little better quality than my Nikon and not so heavy. Buy it and enjoy its 25- 400 mm with its wide range of utility.

I used my Leica M6 for many years + big Nikon kit, and had to scale down a/c bulk and weight--am extremely happy with my Oly OMD-EM-1 kit now, but for "walk-around- I bought a Leica D-Lux-6 and it's AMAZING! I had a Leica V-Lux 1 and it was very precise---

I also own a panasonic fz1000, sold my Nikon d5200 and lenses simply because the Panny is superior in every way! i have been using dslr's both Nikon & Canon for 10 years, but i know now the Panny is the camera i have been waiting for! it is superb and has got me hooked on photography again, it takes a bit of learning though ! This and the Sony rx10 should not be called bridge cameras, they are in a class of there own

Given the number of Leica's I've owned and still own, I'd say that the D-Lux 4 is a fantastic go anywhere camera. I got one for my wife and purchased the Leica hand grip for it as well. She loves it. I also got her the leather carrying case from a dealer in the UK and it fits the camera with the grip. While I don't have the V-Lux 4, I do have the V-Lux 2. I've had this one for several years and love it. I also have the Digilux 2 and Digilux 3. The 2 is a great carry around street camera, while the Digilux 3 is a Moose. It is a fantastic tool. I have the 14~50 2.8 lens and the 40~150 lens. for it. I'm looking for the ultra wide zoom for it.
For more flash power you can add the Leica CF-22 flash that works in TTL mode on the D-Lux 4 and Digilux 3.
Any of the articles I read had the three - the two you mention and the Leica - in the same category and about equal in features and capabilities. I'm very much looking forward to receiving mine - hope they ship quick. I ordered, as I mentioned, from Sammy's in NYC through Amazon - they also featured free shipping. Amazon was more - at roughly the $1400 price, plus tax - free shipping.

You asked about a Leica V-Lux (Typ 114) camera then you bought a Leica V-LUX 4 camera? Am I understanding you correctly?
Oops! That's what happens when you do things at 3:30 a.m.! Didn't realize that happened until you just pointed it out. Yeah, I wanted the (Typ 114). It's already on it's way. I'll try it out and evaluate it - it may suit me fine. If not, back it goes with an apology for my stupidity!
