I am looking for a good quality p&s with a viewfinder that will fit in my shirt or pants pocket. Suggestions please!

Got a budget?
If not Sony is the way to go.

There's a lot of options. Heres a few.

Consider the Sony HX400. 50x zoom, f/2.8 Carl Zeiss lens, 20mp sensor.
Sony a6000

Olympus Stylus 1,
Canon G-15 and the Canon G12
Nikon P7000 has a view finder.

If your pockets to small, get a bigger pocket.

It seems that only the higher end compact cameras have viewfinders. The Canon G series and Nikon P7xxx series have VF's but they will not fit in a shirt or most pants pockets. Two that I can think of that will are the Sony RX100III and the Panasonic LF-1. The RX100III has a 24-70 lens (don't remember the speed), a 1 inch sensor, a hot shoe (I think), an EVF, and it costs almost $900. The LF-1 has a 28-200 f/2-5.9 Leica lens, a 1/1.7 inch sensor, an EVF, and no hot shoe. I just checked B&H and the LF1 is no longer available. Check keh.com, B&H, and Adorama for a lightly used one.

Amazon has a few LF-1's.

1) Be more specific.
2) Start your own research
3) ask question(s) to clarify what you found

At the moment, well, I say go out and purchase a Hasselblad with a 250mb back, a few prime lenses and a studio to go around it.

Great choices. Sony RX100 is great if it's in your budget.

Panasonic TZ70 has a high quality viewfinder. TZ60 has a lesser quality viewfinder. Both shoot RAW. Both are 30x zoom. TZ60 has 18mp, TZ70 has 12mp (lower resolution but much reduced noise for better IQ).

I think the TZ70 is a much better camera for a bit more money. Both are pocketable.

I am interested in this too. I have been considering the Olympus SH-2 (available sometime in April), but I'm interested in seeing the suggestions you receive.

The Sony RX100 DOES NOT HAVE AN OPTICAL VIEWFINDER. Just the LCD screen.

This is the same type of request I posted a few days ago: looking for a quality P&S with a viewfinder, under $500. By now, you probably would not be surprised at the volume and type of replies I received, ranging from the extremes of very thoughtful and helpful to downright nasty and obscene!
Anyway, I narrowed my search down to three: the Canon G16, Fuji X30, and Nikon P7800 (which is over budget), I'll probably go with the Fuji X30 (based on sensor size, resolution, and ease-of-use.

I was following your thread as well. I think the models mentioned in your thread, including the G16, X30 & P7800, are too big to fit in a shirt pocket.

Mac: you are quite correct. The Sony RX100 might, but not sure. Perhaps Canon has a few models that would fit, and their exterior sizes can be checked online, such as the Canon Powershot N1 or N2.

I like the G16 and X30 (I read that the P7800 has a slow buffer write speed) but they are too big for what I need. I'm just looking for something I can have in my pocket for when I can't take a DSLR. I would like a viewfinder, but I don't think that's going to happen with the size I'm looking for.
