I'm planning on a new P&S camera to use for situations where my DSLRs are either not available or not appropriate. My major requirements include pricing under $500, high overall picture quality, reliable durability, useful viewfinder, built-in flash with hot-shoe, and sensor performance. I've reviewed many fine models and narrowed the list to these:
Canon G16 and Fugi X30.
Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

A little over your budget is the Sony RX100 M2 at $599 but, I bought one yesterday and am quite pleased. It even can shoot RAW at 20 MP, has flash but no viewfinder.

I have the G16 and have been more than satisfied. You might also consider the G1 X, which can be found on Canon's refurb site for $330.
Here's a comparison:

Canon sx50/60 is classed as a point and shoot/bridge camera, although they are dslr sized.

For a better quality camera, you might want to consider used/refurbished models such as Nikon P7800, Panasonic LX-100 or Fuji X100T to name just a few. also don't ignore the many fine cameras in the long-zoom "bridge" category.

Thanks for replying. But budget is a strict one, so, I won't go over $500.

There's a $100 difference in price; but my budget is strictly limited to $500 or less.

Thanks for replying, but I require a viewfinder and a price under $500.00.

Thanks for replying, but I'm not looking for a "refurbished" model or a long-zoom clone.

The comparison uses MSRP. The G1 X refurbished from the Canon web site is below your $500 budget by $170. Look again. I see you mentioned that you don't want to consider refurbished. You should reconsider. Many from UHH, including myself, regularly buy refurbished and have never had an issue.

You have a valid point, but I'll be using a gift card that precludes buying a deviced used camera.

G15 on Canon Refurb $229 till 3/31 or GX1 for $349 15 days to use or keep...love my G15...build is excellent optics...1.8 fast...came looking like new...a few things that are not on the camera compared to a 16..I think wifi and a LCD screen that you can move around...my choice is to save the extra $250 and get the 15....one year warranty didn`t see the end of your post about the gift card restrictions....sorry

You've narrowed it down to two great cameras, I'm thinking about buying the X30 to replace my ageing P7100. Another one you might want to add is the Nikon p7800.

Olympus is coming out with a new camera, the Stylus SH-2, that has RAW capability, in April. It's reported to be the same as the SH-1, except that the SH-2 has RAW and the SH-1 doesn't. The SH-2 is reported to cost $399.
