Switching back to LCD

I feel really stupid asking this - I've checked and rechecked my manual and can't find it. I have a Nikon D5100 digital SLR and I selected the option to just use the viewfinder when taking a picture rather than have the LCD on - thus supposedly conserving the battery. I want to change it back so that I can use the LCD screen when composing my photo. Where or how do I do this? Thanks, Nancy B.

On the top left by the on off switch is a lever. Move it to turn live view on & off.

Great - found it and I have my LCD back again. I also have a Nikon D40X - same thing - this one doesn't have a lever that I could see. Thanks, Nancy B.

The D40x doesn't have live view.

I believe there is a menu item in the Set-up Menu that lets you turn the LCD screen off and on.
