The very top of the line for a super zoom --- for now. The ONLY drawback I know about is that it still has the same sensor of all the Nixon point and shoot cameras

It has a electronic view finder. 86X magnifier which makes it a 2000 mm.

Google Nikon P900 reviews and you'll get a lot of information. Hard to get much help here as it won't be released until the 19th.

I've had several Nikon superzooms and have liked them except for one thing, they don't shoot RAW, which I believe will still be the case for this camera. I think for what this one will do, $600 is not bad. They also have several lesser superzooms in the $400 range, comparable in price to Canon and others of this genre.

I am surprised Costco has it since my understanding is it won't be relased until April. Earlier in the week it was a pre order on both B & H and Amazon. Are you sure it was the P900?

Not sure what Nikon is thinking if they are thinking at all when it comes to no raw capability on their bridge camera.

Oh you are fine, I thought at first that this camera did have raw but then realized it didn't, what a disappointment, not to mention the tiny sensor :(

I don't even want to speculate why Nikon would build a camera like that and not include Raw.

Surprised by your comment, I just went out and checked. Sure enough, you're right: the P900 is JPEG only. That makes for a mighty shaky bridge!

What can you expect, it is a bridge superzoom after all, so basically it is like most bridge superzoom cameras, except it has a much longer zoom range and a bit better image stabilization and color rendering than other superzoom bridge cameras. And that is what makes it the best in the category. There is no need for RAW in a camera like this, the sensor is so small that you will not need to use RAW really.

But there is a new category of bridge/superzoom cameras born with the Sony RX10 that has a big enough sensor to benefit from using RAW. The drawback with this camera is that the superzoom is so far only zoom, not super as it is only about 8x zoom equal to 24-200 mm on full frame. We can get much better zoom range in f.x. the Nikon 1 series, which uses the same sensor size and for only half the prize of this Sony. But when we get more cameras in this new category of bridge/superzooms we are seeing some fun times ahead with new level of image quality and good usability of RAW ;)

I would use the term "Bridge," and the price is reasonable compared to what else is selling out there.
