I use an adjustable ND. It does a great job. One thing I would do though is buy one for your largest lens. Then by step down rings to fit your other lenses. This will save you a lot of money. I do this with all my filters.CP too. One size fits all.

I have Hoya and Tiffen and a few other off brands. You want to get good filters. It doesn't make sense to get good glass and put junk in front of it. And if you get one for your biggest lens and use step down rings, you can put a little more money into it. I can see the difference in my cheaper filters, but got hem back in the early 70's.

Very very good advice...I screwed this up and spent a bunch of money when I didn't have to.

Also another good brand is LightCraft; they make a variable called a "Fader" that is about 75.00 or so but worth it...good glass.

You can see what a variable ND does by searching it in youtube.

Here is a good video showing why an ND filter is valuable and it shows the LightCraft version in case you want to see how it works.

There is comments made on the video page about it being good for video but not for photography. I can see the principle here, two polarized pieces of glass, phased, but why would it be detrimental to still shots? Anybody????

You have to take youtube comments with a grain of salt...the net is chock full of idiots.

I'll agree 100% there.

Since you have one, is it threaded male and female, can it accept a filter in addition to it?

I wrote about adjustable NDs a few weeks ago and the benefits of doing your own instead of purchasing one. Here is a link:
