I have just been informed that this picture does not qualify as "Dawn" in the recent photo contest. The reason was not given. The rule for "Dawn" says that it is the time before sunrise when the the sun is still below the horizon and not visible.
I agree, it looks like a Dawn image.
I've had some entries rejected for some subjective rule. The contests seem to be not completely open.

This one was rejected also, but I understand why. Yours I do not understand.

It is very difficult to argue one way or the other. It appears that you didn't set your camera to local time and shows this image was taken just before midnight. If this is where I think it is located, and your camera was set to where you live, this probably was close to dawn, given the time change. However, it's before 5AM here at the moment and I'm not quite all awake.
I'm not sure how the folks selecting the photos for that contest are determining what is dawn, etc., but this certainly could qualify. Interesting situation.

Your photo looks like the sun may be above the horizon, but below the mountain and not visible in your photo. But not visible in a photo and below the horizon are two very different things. I'm just saying!
accept it, move on, you were not robbed...
btw...when did you take that picture?
date and time....????
I can't speak for these images, but if the actual time frame of the contest is that specific to the technical period of "dawn" then it is too limiting in my view.
I think most people tend to consider the terms dawn and sunrise to be interchangeable and synonymous regardless whether this is technically accurate or not.
Just the fact that so many entered sunrise photos shows that to be the case.
Narrowing it down so much is like saying the photo must be taken between 3 pm and 3:30 pm. You could do it but why would you want to?
yup...Swamp...I had one removed too because the sun was up...silly me ... not to understand what DAWN means...no big deal. There is a contest every week. Im not searching the archives and I am not getting up before dawn to get a shot. But I have great admiration for the contest manager for his weekly efforts...coming up with a new subject every week, posting links for learning (that admittedly I did not view) tallying up votes, putting up with a bunch of crap when contestants don't follow rules and then complain about them...
maybe this is a good place to post all rejects
hahahahahahahaha
oops

Bob, you are correct - camera was set to MN time which is not the same as Turkey.

Taken in the spring of 2013 from upper deck of cruise ship as it docked in Bodrum, Turkey. Time was about 6 AM local

Yeah, we are splitting hairs here I think. 50 years from now who's gonna care!

Ha, Ha, Ha! To me, it isn't really worth the trouble to resubmit.
